Godly Play and wondering
On Saturday I took part in a Godly Play workshop. Godly Play is a way of story-telling that invites children to wonder about the story. There are lots of 'I wonder' questions asked of the children during the time. It's quite interesting and fascinating to see it done.
I really like the encouragement to wonder. To explore thoughts for yourself and play with that.
This is something I personally haven't done a lot of recently. I finished my Spirituality subject and in which I wrote a 2000 word essay on the importance of spending time with God and wondering about things with Him/Her. I've been a bit of a hypocrite since and not done much of this for myself!
I've just come back from a short walk during my lunch break. (I'm now usuing the second half of that lunch break to write about it.) As I was walking along I was looking at all the houses around my office and thinking about who lived in them, their history, why they had that colour paint or garden ... wondering really.
It was really refreshing actually. I then moved on to think about Mark 6:30-34, 53-56. I was thinking about what themes or ideas I could use in speaking about this passage. It's started me off on an interesting theme. I might be able to use it but I might not. Either way the fact that I've started thinking is reassuring and I'm not worried that I've done nothing towards it.
Not sure where it will go actually or whether or not I'll use what I've thought about. But that's okay ...
I'm just wondering.
